Hello and thanks for visiting my low tech home page, its purpose is to  let vistors know what I  like and recommend, to support creative mainstream modern jazz and in particular,  to share what information I have about David Murray and his music.  These pages will be upgraded and updated regularly .

I am also especially interested in the music of virtuoso trombonist RayAnderson,
other favourite players include Paul Bley,  Sonny Clark , John Scofield, Bill Evans, Ken Vandermark and Lee Konitz.

A number of  scans of jazz ephemera collected over forty years of listening to jazz will also feature.

Reissues; Another splendid year for reissues.  Too many to mention but Columbia(Miles and
Monk)
, Blue Note (the RVG series) and Fantasy have all produced reissue cds of note.  Sackville
also deserve a mention for getting some of their recordings back in circulation, cds by Barry Altschul and Frank Rosolino where especially welcome.  Credit to
Collectables for restoring Slide Hampton's Atlantic issues and more to the catalogue but no marks for curious couplings on many of their discs.  A big thumbs down to Verve.  A massive and important back catalogue almost totally ignored.

Gigs of the Year; Vandermark 5 (October) , Uri Caine Trio (December)
Ken Vandermark's School Days at the Purcell Room, London November 2003.
2003 Cds of the year

Not a good year for new recordings,  the best of the bunch was MartialSolal's outstanding Village Vanguard set.   It was, however,  a superb year for reissues, notably the Miles Davis Blackhawk recordings and the Mosaic select boxes.  Fine reissues are still coming from Fantasy and Blue Note (no marks for their copy protection though - is this why my "Passing Ships" didn't play?  And I'm not the only one).  Better marks to Verve this year for some more imaginative reissues.

Albert Ayler; Nuits de la Fondation Maeght; Water (Reissue)
Sonny Clark; Trio; Audio Fidelity (ex Time. Expanded reissue)
Albert Ayler; The Copenhagen Tapes; Ayler Records
Carmell Jones; Mosaic Select set; Mosaic (Reissue)
Martial Solal; NY-! Live At The Village Vanguard; Blue Note
Gerry Hemingway; Devil's Paradise; Clean Feed
Miles Davis; In Person, Friday And Saturday Nights At The Blackhawk; Columbia (Expanded reissue)
Roy Haynes; Love Letters; Columbia
Curtis Amy; Mosaic Select; Mosaic (reissue)
Andrew Hill; Passing Ships; Blue Note
Ken Vandermark; Airports For Light; Okkadisk

GIG OF THE YEAR; Ken Vandermark's School Days at the Purcell Room.

Dennis Gonzalez NY Quartet; NY Midnight Suite; Clean Feed
World Saxophone Quartet: Experience; Justin Time

Plus a special mention for talented painist Andrea Vicari's Tryptych; 33Jazz.
